http://www.pcmag.com/article2/0,2817,2400070,00.aspIn announcing a small profit on lower revenue compared to a year ago, Activision Blizzard said that it does not anticipate any release from its Blizzard Entertainment subsidiary in the first quarter, which ends March 31.
You know, after reading the article I'm (kinda...) glad they aren't releasing it earlier.
Of COURSE I want to play asap but, hear me out...
Let's take a look at a few tidbits of the article:
This one here:
However, Blizzard also said that "calendar year 2012 outlook anticipates two releases from Blizzard Entertainment." In November, the company expressed similar goals, but said that its 2012 releases included "a minimum" of two releases.
And especially this:
Activision Publishing also plans to release a new Call of Duty game, grow its Call of Duty Elite online service, and launch Skylanders Giants, a new game. In March, Activision expects to release the first Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 Content Collection, a compilation of content previously released to Call of Duty Elite premium members, on Microsoft's Xbox 360, it said.
Now, If I can permit myself to read between the lines, the first bit tells us that Blizzard is pushing to release stuff. Not a bad thing because we obviously want releases but we also hope they are not cutting corners.
Now we all remember that Blizzard is now a part of Activision, and which other superspecialawesome game is published by Activision?
Call of Duty!!! A game that goes against the philosophy of Blizzard. Released on release day whether or not it's ready. Extremely shallow and repetitive gameplay, all special effects and barely any story. It's an American propaganda film if I've ever seen one.
So while Activision is pushing Blizzard Entertainment (now a subsidiary, let's remember) in the back for a Diablo 3 release, Blizzard is still taking it's traditional sweet ass time making a near-perfect game for us.
There is nothing different about the delays of Diablo 3 versus any of their other games.
The only thing that is making the wait so painful is the Coverage! Starcraft 1 was delayed 2 years before it was released. Diablo 2 took its take. Warcraft 3, WoW. They all did! We waited for them all. But back they we didn't have twitter and facebook updates for Every. Single. Step. the company does in development.
My point is, in this day and age where companies are barfing up half-assed video games that cater to the larger crowd in order to maximize profits, I'm glad to see that Blizzard will NOT sacrifice quality for an early release. I just wish they never dangled the carrot in front of us and simply released the game out of nowhere, when it will finally be ready.
